DELE: Diplomas de Español

I recently discovered that there is an organization, with a local branch in Chicago, called the Instituto Cervantes that is "a public not-for-profit institution founded by the government of Spain to promote Spanish language teaching and knowledge of the cultures of Spanish speaking countries throughout the world"

Essentially it's a giant library with cultural events and intensive language lessons. Yet, what I discovered about it this past weekend I find far more intriguing. Apparently, the Insituto Cervantes offers a Spanish language certification called the DELE.

The DELE is the official qualification for certifying competence in Spanish. It's issued by the Ministry of Education, and is the standard for proving competence in the Spanish language.

Now that I've found out that it exists, I'm dead-set on taking the exam to receive a diploma. The only question is: will I go for the Advanced exam, or the Proficient (High Advanced) test.

Needless to say, I'm quite excited about this.
